Description
This article explains the steps needed to be taken when you need to reduce the number of seats in a subscription.
When a subscription automatically renews, you are charged for the same seat count as your current subscription quantity. However, if your current billable users quantity at the time of renewal is higher than the current subscription quantity, you will be charged for the billable user quantity. You can read about this in our documentation on auto-renewal for SaaS and Self-Managed.

Solution
Upcoming Subscription Renewal
The quickest way to reduce seats in a subscription is through renewing manually via Customers Portal.
If you do not wish to renew manually, please contact your sales representative. To avoid unwanted changes while you engage with Sales, we recommend that you disable auto-renewal by clicking on Subscription actions (3-vertical dots, ⠇) then select Cancel subscription
in Customers Portal at your earliest convenience.
Already Renewed or Purchased Subscription
For already renewed or purchased subscriptions, please open a ticket with our Billing team or contact your GitLab sales representative and they will advice further. Visit the Contact us page of your Customers Portal account to find out how to contact the Billing and Sales teams.
